Do your followers on social media followers subscribe to your email?
Building your own email list is critical because it is the best way to build a relationship with your customers or your potential customers.

Let’s just imagine for a minute that you have hundreds if not thousands of people on your social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, and one day you were shut down, for whatever reason. Believe me, I’ve seen it happen many times. What would you do? How would you contact your customers or your followers?
This is why it’s imperative that you have your own email list, and you don’t rely on social media platforms 100%. You don’t own the platform.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love social media it’s essential to growing your business. It allows you to connect with people and build your brand and a way to drive your audience back to your website. This is a great place to share your offers to capture their email address.
Here are some other reasons why building an email list is soooo important.
Did you know that 91% of customers check their email at least once a day? Not everyone is on social media every day and even if they are they may not see your post. When you send an email it goes directly to their inbox, and they are more likely to open it.

Here’s a scary fact. More than 70% of people who visit your website never return. So why is that important? People are more likely to come back to your website when they receive an email from you. Therefore, you should have an Optin with a freebie on your website. This is a great way to capture their email address and stay connected.
Except for your website, your email list is the only thing you have control over.
When people give you their email addresses, they are giving you permission to stay connected with them. When people join your email list you know that they are interested in your products and services and are expecting you to send them offers, promotions or something of value. Otherwise, they wouldn’t give it to you.
So, how do you turn followers into subscribers?
There are oodles of ways to build your email list. Here are some that I use:
- Lead Magnets: A lead magnet is an incentive you offer your visitors in exchange for their email address. This could be a free PDF, a checklist, an eBook, mini-course, video, something of value, a freebie
- Create A Survey: Create a survey and ask for their feedback on a particular subject. Here’s one that I use survey monkey.
- Giveaways: It could be a sample of a new product, Buy-One-Get-One, Ebook. Something you’re going to give them in exchange for their email address.
- Offer a coupon. Coupons are a popular lead magnet.
- Use an Optin/Popup: A popup is a great way to grow your list quickly. I’m sure you’ve seen these on websites that you have visited. After about 5-20 seconds of being on a website, a pop-up appears on the screen asking you for your email address to receive an offer. This is a popular lead magnet. I use this on my website.

Basically, you are saying I’ll give you this if you give me your email address. Remember it must be something they want and something of value.
Post a link to your social media platforms to sign up for a freebie that directs them to your website. This is a great way to turn your social media followers into subscribers.
Your email subscribers are going to be your most valuable and loyal customers.
These are your true peeps, your best friends, your tribe.
