Want to start a business but have no idea what to do?

Most businesses are created from a passion or idea for a particular service or product.

But before we get started, let me make something perfectly clear. Most people think that starting a business requires a business degree or a unique business idea that no one else has ever done. This is simply NOT true.

Tens of thousands of women started businesses from simple ideas and hobbies, and many of them never owned a business prior. FACT!

The biggest dilemma most people have is, they know they want to start a business, but they don’t know what type of business to start or how to get started.

In this blog post, you will learn how to find your passion … How to pick one thing that you’re good at … How to make your business fit your new lifestyle … And how to take action.

Tip #1

Focus on your skills, passion, and experience

Focus on what you already know. Think of skills you are good at like (art, crafting, baking, yoga, writing, etc.).

It could be something you’re already doing at your day job like (coding, graphic design, office assistant)

What are you passionate about (helping older people, working with animals, etc.)? Leveraging your skills and expertise will increase your chances of success.

Pick one thing that you love to do. Something that you could do every day without getting bored with it. And something that will make you money. You must pick just one service or product to get started. Remember, you can’t chase two rabbits and catch them both. Become known for one thing and get good at it before you expand.

Make sure it’s going to make you money. If you see other people doing it, making it, or teaching it, that’s a good indication it’s going to make you money. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Do what I call a brain dump. Take out a piece of paper and write down ten things you like to do or something you are good at. Think about past jobs you liked, hobbies, things you are passionate about. Find that one thing you would love to do even if you weren’t getting paid for it. BOOM, turn it into a business.

Tip #2

Make sure it fits the lifestyle you want to create

If balancing family and work is important to you, avoid a business that requires working 40+ hours a week or working nights and weekends.

Hate sitting behind a desk all day? Do something creative and fun!

Can’t stand on your feet all day, maybe consider becoming a VA (virtual assistant

Make it fit the lifestyle you want in your future.

The biggest perk about starting your own business is, you are your own boss. You call the shots. You determine how many hours you are going to work. You decide when you go on vacation and for how long. You create your own work schedule. And better yet, you control your financial destiny.

  1. How many hours do you want to work?
  2. How many days a week do you want to work?
  3. How much do you want to make? (weekly-monthly-annually)
  4. How many vacations do you want to take each year?

Tip #3

Take Action

Everyone has something that keeps them from taking that first step. Most people are afraid to start because they fear the unknown or failure and sometimes success. Many find it overwhelming and never start because they don’t know where TO START.

Understanding how to start a business isn’t rocket science. It’s not as difficult as you might think. It’s a step-by-step process. You just need someone to show you how to get it done, so you don’t have to waste time figuring it out on your own.

It’s pretty simple. Just figure out what you want to do, make sure it will make you money, and take action. Stop overthinking it.

The most important trait is perseverance: Do something. Don’t sit back year after year and say, “This is the year I’m going to start my business.” Make this the year you really do it!

I know you’re ready, or you wouldn’t have read this far. Now is the time to take action. Go to Startup Business for Women 50+ and get started today!

I promise this will change your life.

Friend, I hope to see you on the inside.

XOXO
